HELP ME, ITS MCAS TIME is a workshop designed to help teachers work with students on open response questions.
Teachers at Herberg Middle and Reid Middle are working on the MCAS Tutor site that explains details of the MCAS scoring and has the MCAS anchor papers with an overlay capability. (www.ncsmentor.com) They are working with students on the value of putting pen to paper on the MCAS tests and adding logical explanations to answers. They are also developing WORD and VERB WALLS to encourage the use of POWER VERBS in writing. Teachers of every content area can do Collins Writing Assignments used to check for understanding in the classroom. Teachers have a list of web resources that support improvement of effective writing.
